Wayward Vegan Cafe, Seattle WA

Location: 5253 University Way Northeast, Seattle, WA 98105, USA

The place Raymond was most excited about eating at again was Wayward Vegan Cafe. He misses the American style breakfast more than I do as I prefer the German style breakfast - not as greasy and unhealthy or big. We used to eat at Wayward every week and we did eat there as often as we could on our visit. The first trip we started with a cinnamon roll which was so delicious. They were not too sweet and still warm from the oven. Perfect!

We also ordered a cool breeze omelet - fried chicken, diced ham, cheddar cheese with a Dijon mayo sauce. This was my favorite omelet before and it was still pretty tasty. Raymond said it was more mustardy than he remembered, but I found it delicious. It was a ton of food though - I don't know how we ate so much every weekend.

We also tried the new breakfast burger - sausage, avocado, tomato, american cheese and an omelet round on a toasted bun served with hash browns (we also ordered a side of mushroom gravy for the hash browns as yum!). I was expecting this to be super good and have a lot of flavor, but it was just lacking. I couldn't really taste any of the components and it all just blended together into a nondescript sandwich. One of the few things I would not order again.

Overall - I still love Wayward, even though it is always a ton of food. One of the few places to get an amazing breakfast.

Nagano, Salzburg Austria

Location: Getreidegasse 24, 5020 Salzburg, Austria

We had a late breakfast in Salzburg one day, but after walking around for a bit were slightly hungry but it was too early for dinner. We walked by Nagano and decided to stop for a small meal to hold us over until dinner time. We got some edamame which I always love. This was tasty as always. I don't think you can make it not good. All you have to do is steam it, add some salt or other seasonings and yum!

We also tried the tofu steak with rice. Soft tofu with a soy sauce glaze and steamed cabbage, carrots, zucchini and cauliflower. This was really tasty as well, very light and healthy feeling which is nice. Sometimes when we travel we eat a lot of junk so a nice healthy snack is always nice.

Overall - Definitely check out Nagano if you are in Salzburg. They have some tasty healthy vegan options.

Bok, Vienna Austria

Location: Favoritenstraße 8, 1040 Vienna, Austria

After wandering around the Natural History museum in Vienna one morning we went down to Bok for some lunch. They have a lot of veggie options and many small things to choose from. First we tried the veggie packages. These had cabbage, carrot and spices inside a wrapper and were amazing! A lot of times fried things such as this are too greasy for me, but these I wanted more of.

Next we tried the Thai tofu - fried tofu with a sweet and spicy sauce. This was also really tasty, the tofu was crisp on the outside and soft inside and still felt really light even though it was fried.

Then we tried the glass noodle salad. I was intrigued as I had no idea what this would be like and the menu was not very descriptive, but I love noodle so I thought let's give it a go. We asked for it to not be spicy as I don't like a lot of spice and it was so so good. Glass noodles, shredder cucumber, carrots, and onion with a sweet dressing. It was very light and summery and was almost like pickles which I love. I definitely need to figure out how to make this as it was incredible.

And finally veggie duck with vegetables. This was interesting. At first I thought the duck was mushrooms as that is what it looked like and I hate them so...then I tried a piece and...it had a really strong flavor and tasted like hot dogs. Not what I was expecting, though I have never had duck so I don't know what it should taste like. It was just odd. Also with the meat was snow peas, carrots, zucchini, sprouts and mushrooms in a teriyaki like sauce which was delicious. Really I would have taken just he veggies as hot dog meat was just odd with the flavors.

Then when we asked for out bill they brought us a little treat sesame Mochi with a bean paste in the middle. Very tasty end to the meal.

Overall - I really enjoyed Bok. The food was light and fresh and delicious.

Radost FX, Prague Czech Republic

Location: Bělehradská 234/120, 120 00 Prague-Prague 2, Czech Republic

When researching places to eat in Prague I found Radost FX had brunch options for vegans on the weekends so we decided to check it out. We tried the mixed tofu - tofu with thai sesame sauce, salad, served with potatoes & toast. The tofu was tasty by itself and the sauce was tasty - nutty and a little spicy. The salad had a sweet vinaigrette which was unbelievably good. What is with Prague having all the good salad dressings? Seriously they are some of the best I have ever had. The potatoes were cooked and seasoned well. Maybe heavy on the paprika (they looked like they would have a tomato flavor but they didn't) and other spices I couldn't place. They had an odd flavor, but in a good way. I'm just not sure what spices were used as the flavors were not ones I am familiar with.

We also tried the huevos-less rancheros - Corn tortilla with beans, scrambled tofu, topped with salsa & guacamole served with potatoes and toast. This was incredibly tasty. It is hard to find Mexican good in Berlin - not much salad and beans and guacamole to be had so I was excited for this. The guacamole and salsa were spicy and delicious and it was just really really good. I keep thinking back on this dish and wishing I could get it here (or even find the ingredients to make it easily).

Overall - I would highly recommend Radost FX. The brunch options were amazing and I wish we would have had time to go back again and try their other food choices. Next time. Definitely stop in if you are in Prague.

Lehka Hlava, Prague Czech Republic

Location: Boršov 280/2, 110 00 Prague-Prague 1, Czech Republic

We spent two of our holiday days in Prague checking out their Christmas markets and food. We were supposed to arrive early in the day, but due to some train mix-ups we arrived in the evening. First up we were going to go to Vegan City, but unfortunately it closed early that day so we headed off to our second choice - Lehka Hlava. We had been here on our last trip and I remembered the food being quite good, however I wasn't getting my hopes up since some other places we have gone back to have been not as good. Fortunately Lehka Hlava did not disappoint! We were so hungry by the time we got here we ordered a ton of food, and it was all amazing. First up was the Pâté from smoked tofu and cashew nuts, cranberries served with toasted bread. I was a little skeptical of ordering this as a) I have never had pate and b) we tried some vegan Pate while we were in Paris once and it was disgusting however the cranberries intrigued me enough to order it. I am so glad we did as it was incredible! Seriously I need to know how they made it as...yum! The smoked tofu gave it a nice full flavor, but the cranberries really pulled everything together and gave it a nice sweet tangy flavor burst that just pushed it over to incredible. Without the cranberries I would not have liked it as much. I never would have guessed it, but it worked wonderfully.

Next up was the borschov - their version of borsch. This was tasty, though not at all what I expected flavor wise. I was expecting a sweeter soup from the beets and an earthy flavor, but this had a really meaty flavor. Like a beef soup with carrots and cabbage. Good, just not what I was expecting. We still ate it all.

I don't normally order salads as well I figure I can usually make them at home pretty easily. The rustic salad however sounded delicious and I was feeling like lots of veggies so we gave it a try. The salad consisted of green leafy salad with roasted potatoes, roasted vegetable sausage and beetroot dressing, bread on the side. The potatoes were delicious. I could have just eaten a plate full of them. The sausage was like large bacon bits in flavor which I for one love so it was great. The beet dressing again was not sweet like I expected. It had almost a nutty cheese flavor, which was good but had to get some with ever bite. Overall a delicious salad.

The last main we tried was the bulgur risotto - bulgur with stir-fried tempeh, spring vegetables and sun-dried tomato and peanut pesto. I was excited to try the sun-dried tomato and peanut pesto as it was an starter option but we went with the pate instead. Unfortunately I did not like it at all and did not eat it with the rest of the plate (Raymond however loved it and thought I was crazy). The flavor just was not good to me. The rest though was delicious. It tasted almost like teriyaki which I love but hardly ever get to eat. It was very savory and the salad served on the side was very sweet. Raymond loved the combination and thought they went well together. The salad itself was amazing. It had a nice fruity dressing on it which I wish I knew what it was as I would eat it all the time. So so good.

Overall - We loved Lehka Hlava. If we would have been in town longer we definitely would have gone back. Highly recommended. The waitstaff was very nice and friendly, they spoke English which was nice since I didn't really know any Czech, and the atmosphere is great. I love the decor and the food is incredible. It is not all vegan, but there are plenty of vegan options. Definitely give it a try if you are in Prague.

Guen Mai, Paris France

Location: 6 Rue Cardinale, 75006 Paris, France

We spent one of our days in Pairs exploring the Louvre and stopped by Guen Mai for lunch. I wasn't really sure what to expect from this restaurant. I couldn't find a menu or anything, but everything is vegan so we ventured off to see what they had. They have two plates of the day which change with the day of the week so we tried one of each. They are both served with the same side. Side note: I love the plates of small bites that seem to be everywhere in Paris. I wish this was a more accepted practice as I like trying out so many different dishes in one. Back to the food here we had the Tempura Veggies which was really tasty. The veggies were still crisp and the batter light. Also served with some carrots which were glazed and so so good, zucchini and leek dish which was buttery and delicious, bulgar which was tasty, lentils which tasted of thyme and were really good, sea vegetables which I enjoyed (I don't like seaweed of seafood and Raymond even commented on the fact that I ate them as he didn't think I would. However they were prepared or whatever they were I liked them), some rice, and finally some uncooked cabbage and carrots. Everything was so tasty and I am glad we got a little bit of everything.

The other special of the day was Gratinade Tofu served with the same sides. This was really like a little tofu scramble with some herbs and spices. Tasty, but there wasn't much of it (one bite for each of us).
Overall - I would definitely recommend Guen Mai. The menu changes daily, and they also have some delicious looking soups which we did not get to taste on this visit.

Khatag Tibetan Restaurant, Paris France

Location: 68 Rue Quincampoix, 75004 Paris, France

After the disappointing last Tibetan food experience I almost said let's just not try any of the other Tibetan restaurants I had on my list. We were hungry though and Khatag was close by so we stopped. I'm glad we did though as this was much better than Tashi Delek. We tried the Vermicelli legumes - rice noodles, carrots, peppers, green beans in a light sauce. This was really delicious - Raymond preferred the other dish and I preferred this one so I ended up eating it all (usually we share half and half) and he had all of the tofu. The sauce had a really light flavor and complimented the vegetables nicely so their flavors really shown through.

We also tried the Tofu legumes - tofu, peppers, carrots, celery, and green beans. This sauce had a little more flavor, but it still let the vegetables shine. The tofu itself was silky which I don't really like that much (I much prefer a firm tofu - the firmer the better). Raymond loved this one though so it worked out well.

Overall - I would definitely go back to Khatag. It is very close to the Pompidou Center so it is in a prime location and close to a lot of attractions. Definitely stop by and check out some good Tibetan food.

Blossom Vegetarian, Renton WA

Location: 305 Burnett Ave S, Renton, WA 98057, USA

We had a coupon for Blossom Vegetarian which gave us an excuse to head down to Renton to try it out.  Everything is vegetarian and the non-vegan options are clearly labeled on the menu. We started with the shredded pork fresh rolls - bean thread noodles, shredded pork, assorted potatoes, tofu, roasted ground rice, lettuce, basil, wrapped in rice paper, served with lime vinaigrette These were by far the best fresh rolls we have ever had! They flavors were amazing and fresh and so delicious.

Also on advice from the server we tried the Blossom combo - shredded pork, crispy rolls, beef skewer, served with rice vermicelli, lettuce, cucumber, pickled daikon and carrots, cilantro, mint, lime vinaigrette. This also was incredibly good. Each piece by itself was really tasty, then mix it together with the vinaigrette and it was wonderful. The beef skewer was the deliciousness I like from other places, the shredded pork was amazing and it was just really really tasty.

Last we tried the sesame beef - beef sauteed in sesame, broccoli, peas with brown rice. I'm not sure why we chose this as it is not something we usually order, or have ever ordered at similar restaurants. I am so glad we did though as this was incredible! The sesame seeds add a nice flavor and the beef was chewy and delicious.

Overall - Blossom Vegetarian is amazing. When looking at the menu you might think this is the same old mock meat Asian restaurant, but this is way better than any of the other ones that we have been to. Everything was amazing and I highly recommend stopping here.

Chay Viet, Berlin Germany

Location: Brunnenstraße 164, 10119 Berlin, Germany

I met Raymond for dinner after work one day and we decided to try out Chay Viet. I miss Pho as it was one of my staples in Seattle and Chay Viet is a vegetarian (almost completely vegan) Vietnamese restaurant with pho listed on the menu! We started with some Goi Cuon-Summer rolls. Now I love fresh rolls or summer rolls or whatever as they are so light and delicious. These had tofu, rice noodles, lettuce, mint, cucumbers and peppers. Sounds tasty, but somehow it had no flavor without the dip and by themselves not good. The dipping sauce was peanut something and I really didn't like it either...I think this is the first time I have been really disappointed with fresh rolls. Yeah some are better than others but overall I don't think I would order these ones again.

Raymond ordered the Pho Xao - rice noodles with veggies, tofu and a Vietnamese sauce. This was delicious! I have also missed my rice noodle dishes here in Berlin (most Thai places have curries and maybe fried rice, but not my rice noodle favorites). The flavors were strong, the veggies crisp, overall I would definitely eat this again. The portions were also quite large - we had a hard time finishing all of our meal.

I ordered the Pho Chua to try something different. This was rice noodles, tofu, ginger lemongrass soup. This was just alright. I was not the biggest fan of the flavor and probably should have stuck with the normal pho to try that out. The other issue was the rice noodles - you could tell they were not fresh and they were still a little hard like they had not been soaking to soften them long enough.

Overall - I was really impressed with the rice noodle dish and those are hard to find in Berlin. The Pho was not the best, but I do want to go back and try the normal pho. We have tried this restaurant again and tried different dishes and they just were not very good. I would skip this restaurant.

Zen Yai Noodles, Bellevue WA

Location: 15400 NE 20th St, Bellevue, WA 98007, USA

We had a coupon for Zen Yai Noodles in Bellevue so we decided to go check it out. They do not have a large vegetarian menu, but there are a few options. We tried the Royal Tofu Noodles - steamed small rice noodles, vegetables, fresh tofu and fried tofu topped with peanut sauce. This was better than I had expected. The peanut sauce was not the best I have ever had, but ti was good. The veggies crisp and I like that they have fresh and fried tofu in all of the dishes instead of just fried tofu.

We also tried the veggie udon - vegetables, fresh tofu, fried tofu and udon noodles in a clear broth. I've never had an udon noodle soup before, and I rarely have udon noodles themselves, so I wanted to try something different.

We were sharing so they gave us some small bowls. This was really light. The broth was not really flavorful, but had a really light flavor. The veggies were crisp still and the noodles tasty. It felt really healthy - healthier than most noodle dishes we get.

Overall - Zen Yai seems to try and make healthier Asian food than you normally get while eating out. It was tasty, but had light flavors.

May Restaurant and Lounge, Seattle WA

Location: 1612 N 45th St, Seattle, WA 98103, USA

Our one friend recommended May Restaurant to us as a great Thai restaurant. Now Thai is one of my favorite foods so I am always looking for another great restaurant so we decided to check it out. We started with the fresh vegetable rolls. These tasted like they had mango in them which I am allergic to so I didn't really eat much of them, but they were tasty from what I did have.

Then we had the Golden Noodle - wide rice noodle, Thai broccoli, onions, red bell peppers, chopped green bean, bamboo shoot, mushrooms. This was alright. Not the best flavor really and not something I would order again, but it was just alright.

We also had the pumpkin curry - Pumpkin in yellow curry with fried tofu, bamboo shoots, red bell peppers, baby corn, and fresh sweet Thai basil. I was really excited for this as fresh pumpkin is delicious. This dish however...was horrible. The top was just a thick coat of oil - WAY too much and it was just...not good. There were a few large pieces of pumpkin that were still rock hard - even with a knife it was hard to cut it into pieces so you could actually eat it. Way undercooked and since that was the main ingredient...it was very disappointing. That coupled with the oil slick on top and the just not very good flavor of the curry itself and it was just a disaster. Just not good at all.

Overall - I would not recommend May's. It was just not good. I think their dish is the pad thai and we probably should have gotten that - then maybe we would have had one dish that was amazing.

Golden Buddha, Berlin Germany

Location: Gleimstraße 26, 10437 Berlin, Germany

Golden Buddha is a small Thai restaurant in Prenzlauer Berg.  They have a whole section of vegetarian items which can be made vegan, as well as all the noodle dishes (but not the rice dishes). They have summer rolls with tofu and veggies and a light sauce which are definitely one of my favorites. I am used to a peanut sauce being served with them, but this sesame sauce is pretty tasty.

For the entrees we ordered the green curry with soy pieces. This was pretty tasty, though Raymond was convinced the soy pieces were real meat so it freaked him out a bit. I knew it wasn't but they were still a little odd. The flavors were good though.

We also tried the Pad Thai with tofu no egg. This was just alright, not as good as some other ones we have had but not horrible either. I will still look out for a Thai place that has noodle dishes I can eat as most places have just curries.

Overall - I really liked Golden Buddha. The waiters were friendly, they have a nice outdoor area and the food was pretty good.

Thai Fusion Bistro, Seattle WA

Location: 323 NE Thornton Pl, Seattle, WA 98125, USA

I went to the movie with a friend at Northgate and a coworker had said that the Thai place across the street was the best Thai ever so we had to check it out. Thai Fusion Bistro was not very busy when we went as it was mid-afternoon. They had a few odd specials that I couldn't eat (ham and cheese spring rolls? odd). I went with my favorite dish Pad See Ew with tofu no egg. This was alright. Nothing special. There was not a lot of flavor which is unfortunate as it should be easy to make a flavorful pad see ew.

Overall - Thai Fusion Bistro was alright. If I were in Northgate and needed something to eat I might stop by. Maybe some of the other dishes are amazing, but the Pad See Ew was just so so.

Pho Fuscia, Seattle WA

Location: 213 1st Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104, USA

Pho Fushcia is a Vietnamese restaurant in Pioneer Square. I would go there often for lunch when I used to eat out every day. They are by far my favorite pho place in Seattle. I love that they use fresh tofu instead of fried and have an amazing assortment of vegetables that come in it (I know it doesn't look like it in the photo but there are carrots, baby corn, snow peas, broccoli, cauliflower, etc in there). The broth always take a min to get used to and then I love it - just make sure you ask for it with vegetable broth.

They also have a tofu vermicelli bowl that is really tasty. The tofu is cooked in some seasoning served over vermicelli served with sauce and a side salad. It took until recently to try this as I love the pho so much I couldn't ever not get it. Raymond met me for lunch one day and he disliked most soups so this was his choice and I might have to get it myself some time when I don't feel like pho....if that ever happens. Or just make him meet me more often and steal some of his so I get a little bit of everything. They also have a few other options that are or can be made vegan such as the tofu bahn mi (which I haven't tried so I have no idea if it is as good as both of these dishes).

Overall - If you are a pho fan I would definitely try Pho Fuchsia. It is my favorite pho in Seattle and everything I have tried here has been delicious.

Silence-Heart-Nest, Sesttle WA

Location: 3508 Fremont Pl N, Seattle, WA 98103, USA
From Vegan Gastrobot
We went to Silence Heart Nest a few times over the years and were never very impressed with the food we got for breakfast. It was a little more expensive than we usually pay, less food and the food was not as good. My mom was in town however and we were in Fremont looking for some food so we stopped in as she wanted some oatmeal. The oatmeal came out in a huge bowl and my mom enjoyed it, but she didn't like that it didn't have much fruit on it for how much oatmeal they gave you.

I tried the western roundup - sweet potato biscuits, soy sausage covered in cashew gravy served with grilled potatoes. This was better than I had remembered, but still not the best biscuits an gravy I have had. The potatoes were just alright - they could have used some seasoning. The gravy was creamy and pretty tasty, the sausage had a good flavor and the biscuits were fluffy and light. Overall if I were in the area I might stop in again, but at almost $10 for this plate I wouldn't go out of my way for it (if it were amazing I wouldn't mind spending a little more on breakfast).

Overall - Silence-Heart-Nest was better than my previous visits, but still not amazing. A little more expensive than other breakfast options so I don't know how often I would go back there.

Thai Curry Simple, Seattle WA

Location: 1122 E Madison St, Seattle, WA 98122, USA
From Vegan Gastrobot

Thai Curry Simple is a small stand on Madison that I think used to be a coffee stand. They only offering a few curries for $6 and I believe some Thai iced tea. One curry is vegan  - the Tofu Curry. This came in a large round plastic takeout container and is served over rice. We were out and about and wanted something quick and remembered this place and got one curry to share. I was glad we did as it was really a lot of food and it was plenty for both of us. The curry was tasty, not too spicy though I wish there would be more variety of vegetable. For $6 for dinner for both of us though I cannot really complain.

Overall - If I were out and about after happy hour or something I would definitely stop in here for a quick cheap bite to eat before heading home.

Eat, Drink & Perch, Vancouver BC

Location: 1701 Powell St, Vancouver, BC V5L 0A2, Canada
From Vegan Gastrobot
After the letdown of The Foundation not having vegan nachos I was pretty excited to try out the ones at Perch. We ordered a half order of the vegan nachos as we were not that hungry. This was still a HUGE plate of food. These nachos were also amazing – fancier than normal nachos. They consisted of lemon hummus on the bottom of the plate, layers of tortilla chips, daiya cheese, jalapenos, sun dried tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts, onions and tomatoes, served with some Pico de Gallo. Sun dried tomatoes on nachos? Yes please! They were amazing! The flavor just melted together into a huge pile of deliciousness. I would highly recommend these nachos.

From Vegan Gastrobot
We also tried the BBQ tofu nuggets. These were really tasty as well. They were a little bit spicy and it was a dry BBQ and I think the tofu might have been frozen first. I am not really sure as I don’t particularly like pre-frozen tofu as it makes it like a sponge….but this was meatier than normal tofu, but not like a sponge so I am not sure how they prepared it. Whatever they did it worked and was amazing.

Overall – I loved Perch. It was a tiny place in an odd location (not much around it but warehouses), but the food was amazing. I wish we would have had time to go back and try some of the vegan pizzas and sandwiches. Or just hang out with a drink and some nachos…Maybe next time.

Wild Rice, Vancouver BC

Location: 117 W Pender St, Vancouver, BC V6B 5N2, Canada
From Vegan Gastrobot
I was very excited to check out Wild Rice in Vancouver as the menu intrigued me. They list themselves as modern Chinese cuisine, and the menu had a few vegan options that looked like we would have a fancy dim sum supper. First up we tried the smoked tofu and shitake mushroom radish cakes. When these came out they looked just like triangles of fried tofu. On the plate were marinated mushrooms and onions. Raymond loved the marinated mushrooms, and though while they were tasty the texture I just cannot do. Mushrooms are disgusting. The radish cakes had a nice light smoky flavor and were very crispy on the outside and just really tasty.

From Vegan Gastrobot
Next up Truffle salt tofu and cauliflower puree with peas. The puree had coconut milk in it as there was a hint of coconut. The cauliflower added a nice hint of sweetness, the tofu was tasty, but didn’t have a lot of flavor. Wild Rice seems to use a lot of balsamic instead of soy sauce with adds a nice unique flavor to their dishes.

From Vegan Gastrobot
And finally the Yam & Rosemary Potstickers. These were really sweet, but you could not taste the rosemary at all. These were not at all what you expect from a potsticker - there are not any of the normal veggies in it and they are really sweet instead of savory. I really enjoyed them.

Overall – if you have time and a reservation (unless you show up later in the evening) stop in for a small bite. The items were tasty and different from your standard Chinese cuisine.

Cafe Deux Soleils, Vancouver BC

Location: 2096 Commercial Dr, Vancouver, BC V5N 4B2, Canada
From Vegan Gastrobot
There is something about Canada that they don’t wake up early there or they don’t like breakfast that I can’t figure out – in Toronto we had a hard time finding anything open before 11am which to me is lunchtime (early yes, but still lunch). I did find Cafe Deux Soleils listed as being open every day from 8am-midnight so I thought great! A breakfast place in Vancouver! And all vegetarian so they should have some good vegan options right? I mean I couldn’t find a menu, which usually makes me not go to the place, but everyone raved about their breakfast foods so it has to be good right? Boy was I wrong. We arrived around 9 and found that it was closed…so much for being open 8am-midnight every day! When they finally did open we ordered the only thing we were told that could be made vegan for breakfast – the tofu scramble (teriyaki tofu and veggies) with dry toast and potatoes. I am so glad that we only ordered one to share – it was sooooo salty! Like WAY too salty. Burn my mouth salty. The Teriyaki tofu…while the veggies were pretty good the tofu just sucked up all of the soy sauce and they used way too much of it so it was just a brick of salt. Might as well just pour the salt right into my mouth. It was not good and we were barely able to eat it. The potatoes were alright, the bread actually really good dry – the best part of the meal however I just looked up some reviews again and found that the marble rye which we were told was vegan might not be…..which makes me like this place even less than I already did. Maybe if you are vegetarian and eat eggs and cheese and such it is good, but if you are vegan I would stay away from here. They don’t have many options for vegans which is such a shame as it is an all vegetarian place…I always feel like vegans are vegetarians also so maybe you should have a few options for us as well? I don’t know. I really just had a very bad experience here and would not recommend going here (even if it is the only thing open around 9am).

Overall – Definitely DO NOT go here. The only breakfast item that is vegan is the tofu scramble which was like eating a pile of salt. Also they gave us potentially non-vegan bread with our food (based on reviews from others). If so then that alone would have been enough for me to never go back – I wouldn’t trust that I am actually getting vegan food.

Don and Clare's Beach Shack, Falls Church, VA

Location: 130 N Washington St, Falls Church, VA 22046, USA
From Vegan Gastrobot
Clare & Don's Beach Shack is a fairly large restaurant that was very popular even though we stopped by early on a weekday. They have a few different types of tofu (buffalo, coconut, bbq, grilled and traditional) to choose from for their sandwiches and other options. There is even a tofu sampler for dinner. We were there at lunch so we ordered the fried tofu sandwich. This didn't look like much so I was setting myself up for another disgusting disappointing sandwich like we had at Smoke & Barrel. However, this was really good. The tofu was seasoned well and the sandwich came with lettuce and tomato. This was surprisingly good. The fries were just alright - they tasted like frozen fries you get from the store, though they were seasoned with salt and pepper so I enjoyed them. It was really busy so everyone working there was rushing around, but the waiter did check to make sure everything was vegan for us which is always nice.

Overall - If I were in the area again I would stop by for another visit, especially if it were trivia night. The multiple flavors of tofu is a nice addition even though the menu is fairly simple.
