Tanne B, Berlin Germany

Location: Eisenbahnstraße 48, 10997 Berlin, Germany

Tanne B is probably my favorite ice cream place in Berlin. They have fresh waffles that are vegan and with a scoop of ice cream they are delicious! Raymond opted for pistachio which he really enjoyed, but I am not a fan of pistachios. It was very creamy though.

It was a hot day so I opted for strawberry sorbet, which I didn't think would pair well with the waffle, but it was delicious. Light and refreshing.

Overall - Tanne B is delicious. Their vegan ice creams are some of the best around. Highly recommended.

Eislabor, Berlin Germany

Location: Raumerstraße 31, 10437 Berlin, Germany

After eating at Vego recently we headed down to Eislabor to try their vegan ice creams again. The flavors we tried that day were chocolate and Almond. These were alright, but kind of icey. Like the texture had ice crystals in it, so not the best, but tasty and good while sitting in the park on a warm summer evening. If other vegan ice cream places were closer we would have gone to them, but this will do in a pinch.

Overall - Not the best ice cream, but not terrible either. The texture is just not as smooth as it should be.

Healeo, Seattle WA

Location: 1520 15th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122, USA

After our corndogs at Unicorn we walked the couple blocks up to Healeo for some hemp soft serve. I know they have other food options that are vegan, but we have only ever eaten the soft serve there. It was vanilla cucumber and we got blueberries as our topping of choice. This was really light tasting and I enjoyed it. Raymond was sad it wasn't chocolate. All in all quite tasty.

Overall - I like the soft serve from Healeo. It tastes light and is perfect on a warm sunny day.

Full Tilt, Seattle WA

Location: 5453 Leary Avenue Northwest, Seattle, WA 98107, USA

So I know this isn't the prettiest picture, but it sure was tasty. We were hanging out in Ballard eating sweets so we stopped by Full Tilt to see what their vegan options were. They had a blue one which I was super excited about until I tried it and it was just coconut colored blue - yuck! I hate coconut flavor so no go on that. They did have two delicious ones, Peanut Butter Chip and Peanut Butter Banana, so we decided to get the smallest non-kid size and share. Man am I glad we did. This is so much ice cream! It has to be at least a pint and it is a bit ridiculous. I am used to my one small scoop that I still share with Raymond here in Berlin. Oh well it was tasty. The Peanut Butter Chip was just like peanut butter chocolate chip which was really really good. The banana one was very banana-y and eating them together was delicious. They went well, probably because they were both peanut butter flavored.

Overall - I really enjoyed my ice cream at Full Tilt. It is a ton of food though so I definitely have to share.

Der Eisbarliner, Berlin Germany

Location: Gärtnerstraße 11, 10245 Berlin, Germany

Whenever we go near Der Eisbarliner we stop in to see what the flavors are. They had Stracciatella which we had never heard of before so we had to try it. The lady said it was like whipped cream with chocolate pieces. Kind of like chocolate chip, but the chocolate is lighter and flakier. Pretty tasty, though not like whipped cream. I think Raymond really enjoyed it.

Overall - Der Eisbarliner is amazing. Definitely some of the best ice cream in Berlin. If you are in the area definitely stop by.

Der Eisbarliner, Berlin Germany

Location: Gärtnerstraße 11, 10245 Berlin, Germany

Pretty much every time I am in Friedrichshain I have to stop by Der Eisbarliner for some ice cream or sorbet. On this occasion they didn't have any fun soy ice cream flavors, so we got strawberry and lime sorbet. I loved these two together. Strawberry sorbet is pretty much always amazing and the lime was even more refreshing on a hot day. I think they always have these two flavors (or they have every time we have gone) so if you want a light refreshing treat definitely try one of these.

Overall - Der Eisbarliner is one of my favorite ice cream places in Berlin. They usually have some amazing soy ice cream flavors or delicious sorbet.

Tanne B, Berlin Germany

Location: Eisenbahnstraße 48, 10997 Berlin, Germany

Tanne B is already one of our favorite ice cream shops in Berlin. We were out and about and stopped in for some ice cream and I saw someone go outside with a waffle that looked delicious. I told Raymond how I wanted that and he asked if I could eat it. I replied probably not as well...they usually are not vegan. He searched for a menu to look at the waffles...and they were vegan! That was super exciting for me so we had to get one with some soy chocolate ice cream (my favorite). The waffle was delicious. They are made to order so they are still hot when you get them and they are just really really good. It is for the best that we don't live closer to here otherwise I would go way too often for some waffles and ice cream. Delicious.

Overall - Definitely get a waffle with your ice cream!

Eislabor, Berlin Germany

Location: Raumerstraße 32, 10437 Berlin, Germany

After having dinner at Vego Foodworld we wandered down to the park and found Eislabor with 4 different vegan flavors. Raymond went with soy chocolate and soy stracciatella which he is a big fan of.

I tried the soy chocolate and soy almond. The chocolate was really chocolaty but not as good as some of the other ones we have had. The almond was alright and Raymond enjoyed the stracciatella.

Overall - This was not the best ice cream we have had in Berlin, but it was not horrible either. If we were in the area again and wanted ice cream we would stop by again.

Caramelli, Berlin Germany

Location: Wühlischstraße 31, 10245 Berlin, Germany

Our tour of vegan ice cream in Berlin continues with Caramello. We have gone by here a few times and they usually only have like vanilla and other flavors that I am just eh on so we don't usually get anything. This day they had chocolate sorbet so we tried it in a waffle cone. The sorbet was...well it was chocolatey, but not as good as the soy chocolate ice creams we have had other places. Yeah I know it is sorbet, but well I don't know I still expected it to be better. It was alright, but you might as well walk up to Der Eisbarliner if you want ice cream and are in the area. They are way better.

Overall - Caramello is just alright. Der Eisbarliner is just up the road and is a much better option.

Tanne B, Berlin Germany

Location: Eisenbahnstraße 48, 10997 Berlin, Germany

When we first visited Berlin in 2010 we went to Tanne B for ice cream and it was at the time the best ice cream I have ever had. They had a soy chocolate that was just amazing. The best ice cream I had had vegan or non. Recently in Stogo in New York might claim that title (probably because they have super fun flavors), but this would be a close second. We stopped by and unfortunately they did not have soy chocolate that day which was a little bit sad. They did have hazelnut and Raymond wanted to try it so I said okay even though I wasn't expecting it to be very good. I mean hazelnut...sure but it is not going to be great and the best thing ever. I was wrong. This was amazing! Seriously I never would have ordered it and was ready to walk out without getting anything, but this was...I am glad Raymond wanted some. I am not even a huge hazelnut fan...the ice cream here is so creamy and delicious. It makes me want some right now...I think it is good that we don't like closer or I would eat here all the time!

Overall - Definitely stop by here if you ever are in the area. Or even if you are close-ish. The vegan ice cream is the best we have had in the city, maybe a tie with Der Eisbarliner.

Rosa Canina, Berlin Germany

Location: Pasteurstraße 32, 10407 Berlin, Germany

While riding our bikes around we came across a market to check out and found Rosa Canina across the street so of course we had to look for vegan options.  They had a raspberry basil sorbet so we had to get some to try (strawberry basil is amazing so I had high hopes for this). I was a little disappointed - it didn't really have a basil flavor it just tasted like raspberry which is good. I was just expecting something a little more. Still refreshing and tasty, but not what I was expecting.

Overall - the sorbet was good, but the flavor was not as strong as I had hoped. If I were in the area again I would stop in and try another flavor to see how it is.

Der Eisbarliner, Berlin Germany

Location: Gärtnerstraße 11, 10245 Berlin, Germany

Berlin has a ton of ice cream places which is great over the summer when it is hot out. Most of them have at least a sorbet that is vegan, and some even have vegan ice cream. We were at the market at Boxhagener Platz and stumbled upon Der Eisbarliner and the sign outside said vegan ice cream so of course we had to check it out. They had a soy chocolate that day and I remember the one I had when we were visiting at another shop so I had to try it. That and strawberry sorbet as I really like strawberry sorbet. Another great thing about the ice cream shops in Berlin - their waffle cones are vegan (for the most part)! This ice cream was amazing - I love the chocolate as it is so creamy and delicious. The strawberry is light and fruity and perfect for a hot day. I feel lucky to live in a city where I can get such good vegan ice cream!

Overall - I would check out Der Eisbarliner if you are in the area. The ice cream is great!

Full Tilt Ice Cream, Seattle WA

Location: 5453 Leary Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107, USA

On a nice warm day nothing is better than some nice cold ice cream. We were in Ballard so we stopped by Full Tilt Ice Cream. We tried a scoop of Mayan Chocolate and a scoop of Maple. Just a note - the scoops are HUGE. We shared the two scoops and it was so much ice cream and not that expensive. The ice cream itself was alright - my issue is it is coconut based and I hate coconut flavor. Luckily this didn't have a super strong coconut flavor unlike some. Raymond really enjoyed both of them, but the Maple was a little too coconuty for me. I could eat it mixed with the chocolate to offset some of it.

Overall - Full Tilt always has a few different flavors of vegan ice cream. They are coconut based so I am not always a fan, but they are refreshing on a hot day.

Karmavore The Vegan Shop, New Westminster BC

Location: 610 Columbia St, New Westminster, BC V3M 1A8, Canada
From Vegan Gastrobot
Karmavore was a little bit out of the way in New Westminster, but it sounded amazing so we tried to fit it in. The only time we had was Sun morning so we had a very tasty sweet breakfast. First up was an ice cream sundae! They were out of chocolate, we had ordered the swirl, and so they gave us the vanilla with chocolate sauce for free. This was amazing! I love soft serve and wish we had this in Seattle. It was creamy and tasted just like normal soft serve to me.

From Vegan Gastrobot
Next was a plain croissant and a daiya croissant. The plain croissant was Raymond’s favorite, but it was missing something to me….I couldn’t quite figure out what was missing. It was flaky and light, and good, but something was off for me. The Daiya croissant was much better – still flaky and the cheese gave it a nice flavor. They were both flaky like croissants should be, but a little denser maybe? I don’t know. I did like the cheese one a lot.

From Vegan Gastrobot
Finally we had a cinnamon bun. This was so disappointing…it needed way more cinnamon. It didn’t really have much flavor which is surprising. I definitely would not get it again; it was dry and just not good.

Overall – I really liked the store/bakery set up. The soft serve was amazing so definitely get that! Also, the croissants were not bad. They also have cupcakes from Edible Flours which are amazing so they have lots of treats. Plus some shoes and other apparel and grocery items. Definitely worth a stop if you can manage it.

Sweet Action, Denver CO

Location: Denver, CO, USA
From Vegan Gastrobot
Sweet Action is an ice cream shop in Denver that always has a few vegan flavors. They use a coconut milk base so I was a little iffy on it - sometimes the coconut ice creams taste too much like coconut for me (I dislike the flavor). The flavors the day we were there were Blueberry and Pumpkin Pie, and sorbet flavor of Raspberry Lime. We tried the sorbet and the pumpkin pie and both were very good. The raspberry lime sorbet was very light and summery - it would be very refreshing on a hot day. The pumpkin pie was also good, but not the best ice cream I have ever had. Yes it was creamy and the flavor was there, but...it was good. Not the best (though we have had a lot of absolutely amazing ice creams before so there is a high standard). One of the people we were with had the blueberry and I tried some of it - I am glad we didn't get that one as it just tasted like coconut. Overall - if I lived in Denver we would go here for a treat once and a while. The sorbet would be refreshing in the summer and what I would probably stick with instead of the ice cream.

Scoops & Plates, Brooklyn, New York

Location: 624 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225, USA
From Food
Next up on our food tour of Brooklyn was Scoops & Plates in Brooklyn. We walked from over in Park Slope just to check out this Jamaican on the other side of Prospect Park. We walked in and the place is tiny - there are only a couple of stools by the window. There were a bunch of trays behind the glass with food in them, but just as we walked in the guy behind the counter covered them up. There wasn't a menu I could see to know what was underneath the lids so I asked the guy if he could tell me what he had. He was incredibly rude the entire time we were in there and if anyone else came in he ignored us and helped them. I am not entirely sure why....I tried being as nice as possible and he still had some issue with us. I almost just left and said screw this place as I was really hungry and tired. I have no idea what his problem with us was, but when I finally got him to tell us what he had he sighed really loudly and angrily took off the lids and threw them to the side. We decided to get a small container with mince and peas over rice. The peas were good, but the mince...the mince was amazing! It was like barbecue and was just amazing! I was glad we stuck out the rude service just to have some of the mince.

From Food
We also got a scoop of the strawberry banana ice cream. All of the ice creams were tofutti brand which is not my favorite, but this strawberry banana was actually pretty good. Not as good as the other ice creams we had, but alright.

Overall I would try this place again just to get more mince, and to see if the service was any better. If not then it would be hard to continue to eat here because I do not like to support rude people.

Lulu's Sweet Apothecary, New York City

Location: 516 E 6th St, New York, NY 10009, USA
From Food
In New York City we stopped to try some ice cream at Lulu's Sweet Apothecary. We had been eating a lot and trying many different places in a short amount of time so we only got one thing to share. The soft serve flavor was cake batter so we tried that. I remember my friend talking about a place in or near Boston that was very popular and they had cake batter ice cream and it was his all time favorite flavor. Since I had never seen it as a vegan option we jumped on the chance and man am I glad we did! This was incredible!! We really wanted to go back and get one of the flurries I believe they called them - soft serve with choice of topping blended up (so like a blizzard) as I think the addition of chocolate chips would have been out of this world. If you ever see this flavor offered at Lulu's definitely try it! New York definitely have some incredible vegan ice cream options - definitely try them out!

Stogo, New York City

Location: 159 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003, USA
From Food
Stogo is an amazing vegan ice cream shop! They had 18 different flavors of ice cream with a few different bases (soy, coconut, etc). The flavors they had were not the standard fair. Sure they did have some chocolate, but they also have green tea, bananas foster, and many more exciting flavors! We sampled just about all of them and they were all incredible! Teh people working there were also super nice. All of the flavors were all so good it was hard to choose which ones we would like to eat more of.
From Food
We ended up getting a large cup with bananas foster, salted caramel pecan, and hemp chocolate. As we were eating Raymond asked me which flavor was my favor...and I was hard pressed to choose. When I tried the bananas foster I thought oh this is the best ice cream ever! Then I tried the salted caramel pecan and thought no this is the best one! Then the hemp chocolate and that was the best! and on and on. Really this is probably the best ice cream, vegan or non, that I have ever had. I wish we had Stogo in Seattle...or maybe I don't because then I would eat way too much of it. If you are in NYC then this is a must stop!
