St Dames, Seattle WA

Location: 4525 Martin Luther King Jr Way S, Seattle, WA 98108, USA

St Dames is...well it is hit or miss. It is not super expensive, but it is not cheap either. We have gone a few times for special occasions where we didn't want to spend a fortune (like at Cafe Flora or Sutra), and I really want to like it but it is not my favorite restaurant in Seattle. Sometimes we get something that is absolutely amazing and somethings we get are just alright at best. It is unfortunate as if they could make everything amazing I would frequent it more often. While my mom was in town visiting we went out for brunch at St Dames to try it out. The soup of the day was vegan cream of broccoli and potato so I had to try it as it sounded amazing. It was alright. Not bad, but not incredibly good either. I think I could have made one with better and more flavor.

We also got the tofu scramble of the day which was Mexican themed with tofu, vegan chorizo, black beans, and corn topped with vegan sour cream and served with 2 corn tortillas and potatoes. This I liked even though it was a little spicy. The scramble was seasoned well and it went well with the tortillas. The potatoes were cooked nicely and had a good seasoning to them as well.

And finally we tried the vegan biscuits and gravy - mushroom and vegan chorizo gravy served with tamari braised kale. This was...not very good. I think part of the problem was I had the bottom half of the biscuit and it was burned. Not browned a little, burned completely black. So it tasted like charcoal and was just not good. The gravy itself was alright, but not my favorite. I thought it would have a lot of flavor especially with the chorizo in there, but it was just blah. The kale was good but a little salty. Overall this dish was just not good and I would not order it again (even though I love biscuits and gravy for breakfast).

Overall - St Dames is an iffy one. If you are in the area and feel like a drink maybe stop by. Their dishes are hit or miss - some are amazing and some are just not good. If they could work it out so everything had a great flavor I would go more often, but as it stands I can't really recommend them.
